To Our Devoted Knitters and Crocheters:
Thank you for helping Guideposts make a difference in the lives of over 500,000 children, both in our country and around the world. Since 1996, when Guideposts Knit for Kids began, the program has grown beyond anyone.s imagining because of your dedication and creativity. Thanks to you, some kids for the first time in their lives have had something new; for others, the sweaters are cherished hand-me-downs.
We want to let you know about a transition in this ministry. Having reached the incredible milestone of over a half a million sweaters distributed, we are turning the program over to our long-time partner, World Vision, to take the program to the next level. Guideposts wants to see the program reach more children and we feel that World Vision has the resources, structure, and capacity to do so. World Vision is a Christian humanitarian organization dedicated to helping children, their families and communities worldwide achieve their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty and injustice. Their reach is enormous; for the past ten years they have helped Guideposts carry your precious gifts to children as far away as Azerbaijan, Kenya, Thailand, and Banda Aceh, and as close to home as West Virginia, New Orleans and the Bronx.
World Vision is committed to the program and will now take over its complete management, though Guideposts will continue to remain connected to the Knit for Kids program. Moving forward please send your sweaters to:
Knit for Kids, World Vision, 210 Overlook Drive, Sewickley, PA 15143
You have told us that your participation in this program has been a labor of love. Many of you have said that every stitch represents a prayer for the child who will wear the sweater. And you have also told us that your own lives have been changed as result of the program. Retirees, members of church groups, gatherings of friends, prisoners, men as well as women, all have been energized and uplifted by knowing that they are doing something for needy children.
We hope that in partnership with World Vision you will continue to express your faith-filled values through a hobby you love, and also enjoy fellowship and the joy of creativity in the process. Guideposts will continue to support this program by publishing the stories of the children helped by your generosity, and of course with our continued prayers.
